Course Overview

This five-day advanced course builds the skill to model valuation, scenarios and transactions to a professional standard. It covers discounted cash flow valuation, scenario and sensitivity modelling, and the models behind mergers, acquisitions and leveraged buyouts. Building on a sound three statement foundation, participants leave able to value businesses and projects, model complex decisions, and produce the analysis that investors and boards rely on.

Introduction

Once you can build a sound model, the real value lies in what you do with it: valuing a business, weighing an acquisition, testing a decision against a range of futures. These are the models that sit behind the biggest decisions an organisation makes, and the ones where error is most expensive. They demand both technical skill and judgement.

This course builds both. It assumes a working three statement model and moves into discounted cash flow valuation, rigorous scenario and sensitivity analysis, and the specialist models used in mergers, acquisitions and leveraged buyouts. Each is built and stress tested in Excel, with attention to the assumptions that drive results and the judgement needed to interpret them. Participants leave able to value a business or project with confidence, model complex transactions and decisions, and present analysis that stands up to the scrutiny of investors, lenders and boards.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  1. 01Build models on a sound three statement foundation.
  2. 02Apply discounted cash flow valuation in full.
  3. 03Estimate and apply the discount rate and terminal value.
  4. 04Build robust scenario and sensitivity analysis.
  5. 05Model mergers and acquisitions.
  6. 06Build a leveraged buyout model.
  7. 07Apply relative and multiples based valuation.
  8. 08Stress test models and interpret the results.
  9. 09Present valuation and transaction analysis with confidence.
