Course Overview

This five day course takes participants from the foundations of financial accounting through to the preparation and analysis of financial statements. It covers the accounting cycle, the preparation of the primary statements, and the techniques used to read and interpret them. By the end, participants can both produce reliable financial information and turn it into the insight that managers, lenders and investors rely on.

Introduction

Financial information is only as useful as the discipline behind it. Behind every credible set of accounts is a clear understanding of the accounting cycle, the rules that govern recognition, and the judgement to present a true and fair view. And behind every good financial decision is someone who can read those accounts and see what they really say.

This course builds both abilities. It starts with the fundamentals of double entry and the accounting cycle, moves through the preparation of the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement, and then turns to analysis: the ratios, trends and red flags that reveal the health of an organisation. It is grounded in practical examples rather than theory, so the skills transfer straight to the workplace. Participants leave able to prepare a clean set of financial statements and to analyse any set of accounts with a critical, informed eye, whether they are reporting on their own organisation or assessing another.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  1. 01•Apply double entry and the full accounting cycle.
  2. 02•Record transactions accurately through to the trial balance.
  3. 03•Prepare the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement.
