This five-day course builds a practical command of International Financial Reporting Standards and how to apply them to real financial statements. It covers the IFRS conceptual framework, the standards most often encountered in practice, and the presentation of a complete set of IFRS financial statements. Through worked examples and disclosure exercises, participants move from knowing the standards to applying them with confidence, producing reporting that is compliant, comparable and decision useful.
IFRS is the common language of financial reporting across most of the world, and across most of Africa's capital markets, banks and listed companies. Yet for many finance professionals, the standards remain something to be feared rather than confidently applied: a shifting body of rules learned in fragments, on the job, under deadline. The cost of that uncertainty shows up in misstatements, audit adjustments and reporting that does not stand up to scrutiny.
This course replaces fragments with a coherent command of the framework. It begins with the conceptual foundations that explain why the standards work as they do, then works systematically through the standards practitioners meet most often, from revenue and leases to property, financial statements and disclosure. Every standard is taught through worked examples and the judgements that real preparers must make, not as abstract text. Participants leave able to prepare and review IFRS financial statements with confidence, apply the right standard to a transaction, and produce disclosure that satisfies auditors, regulators and investors. The course reflects the standards in force and flags the direction of change, so command is current as well as practical.
